An inventory of water resources in the Lulo River Basin was then made. Thewater resources inventory was performed using Arc GIS and HEC-HMS.
Hydrochemical analysis of surface and groundwaters were alsoconducted in the field. Groundwater samples were collected in 10 wellsand also in the catchment area of the Lulo River Basin. Groundwater samples were analyzed to determine the major and trace elements present in the four major aquifers that constitute the basin. The major and traceelements present in the stream catchment were also determined using Arc Hydro Tool. The trace elements present in the stream catchment were also analyzed in the field and the results of the analysis were presented.
Hydrological analysis and simulation of the water resources in theLulo River Basin was done by Arc Hydro Tool. The three hydrological models HEC-HMS, HEC-HMS and HEC-HYDRO were used together with Arc Hydro Tool. The three models were used to simulate surface waterflow, groundwaterflow, discharge of the Lulo River Basin and the proportion of groundwaterflow to surface water flow for different scenarios of groundwater withdrawal.
In this study, a complete asset inventory of Lulo River basin was performed to determine the asset base and the existing infrastructures. In this study, the LuloRiver Basin was entirely contained in the 3d layers of Arc Hydro DataModel. The hydrological models such as HEC-HMS, HEC-HMS, HEC-HYDRO were used to determine the surface water flow, groundwater flow, discharge of each catchment and also the proportion of groundwaterflow to surface water flow. Arc Hydro models are capable of simulating the potential discharge and also the groundwaterflow to surface water flow ratios for different scenarios of groundwater extraction.
Basin slope determination: To determine the basin slope, thewatershed slope percent (Wshslope) was first determined usingArc Hydro Tool. The generated watershed is presented in Figure 18while the basin attribute table showing the calculated basin slopeis presented in Table 10.
